Russell “Tyrell” Lavar Payton, 45, of Largo, FL. passed away on March 3, 2025. Born on Valentine’s Day in 1980 in Tallahassee, FL, Tyrell’s journey took him from Pensacola, where he lived after being adopted, to Milton, FL, where he grew up and made countless cherished memories. Over the years, he also called North Carolina and Maine home, making a lasting impact wherever he went.
Tyrell was a dreamer, a creator, and a man of action—if he set his sights on something, he made it happen. Well-known in Maine for his talent in breeding and developing cannabis strains, he poured his passion into his work. An artist at heart, he created music and stunning artwork, always bringing his visions to life in unique and inspiring ways. He also worked in the construction industry as a driller, showcasing his determination and work ethic.
Beyond his work, Tyrell had a deep love for the outdoors—fishing, hunting, and tailgating were some of his greatest joys. A devoted Miami Hurricanes and Carolina Panthers fan, he never missed a chance to cheer on his teams with enthusiasm.
Tyrell’s infectious personality, humor, and unmistakable laugh brought joy to everyone around him. He had a gift for making people feel at ease and a presence that could light up any room. His presence was unforgettable, and with just one interaction, he left a lasting impression. All who were lucky enough to know him felt his loyalty, kindness, and unwavering support. He didn’t just make friends—he made family, bringing together people from all walks of life with his love and genuine spirit.
Tyrell’s greatest love was his family, whom he cherished deeply. He is survived by his loving wife, Jessica Payton; his parents, Russell and Lula Payton; his sisters, Tynisha Matthews (Steve) and Mellonia Upshaw (Juan); his brothers, Celdric Crump (Mildred) and Omar Meeks (Mahogany); and his beloved nieces and nephews, Devon (Taylor), Jalen, Christopher, Omar Jr., Madison, Zion, Indya, Dove, and Jireh. He also leaves behind his children, Azariah, Marley, Khalil, Cassius, Kiara, Johanni, Angel, Kevonna, and Xavier, as well as his precious granddaughter, Jaida.
Though he is gone too soon, Tyrell’s light, love, laughter, and legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
