In Loving Memory of Allison Alfonso
Allison June Alfonso, a beloved mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 29th, 2024, at the age of 45, surrounded by family and friends. Known for her free-spirited nature, adventurous heart, and deep love for those close to her, Allison lived her life with intensity and passion, always embracing new experiences, especially those that involved running. Her journey, while filled with love and laughter, was also marked by the profound challenges of mental health struggles, which she faced with courage and resilience.
Born as Allison June Smith, on March 4th, 1979 in Nashville, Tennessee, she grew up with a keen curiosity and a thirst for adventure that shaped her life. From taking her first steps at 7 months old and precariously climbing trees as a young child, followed by cross country running in high school and numerous marathons in adulthood, to being an avid participant in Stroller Strides as a new mother, Allison found solace and joy in being active. Those who knew her well cherished her energy, enthusiasm, and her capacity to make every day feel like an adventure, no matter where she was.
Despite her love for life’s adventures, Allison faced difficult battles with her mental health. She strove to navigate these challenges, drawing on her inner strength and the love of her family and friends. She will be forever remembered for her endless energy, her inclusivity, and the love she shared so freely with those around her.
She leaves behind her treasured sons, Sebastian and Liam, who brought her the greatest joy and whose love sustained her. She is also survived by her devoted parents, Neil and Kathy; her siblings (and beloved niece/nephews), Lisa and Kris (Juniper and Everett), Casey and Joe (Brycen, Ethan, and Corey), and Ryan and Lori; the committed father of her children, Yorlan; and her adored niece and nephew, Natalie and Christian, all of whom held her close and supported her through her journey.
Allison’s life reminds us of both the light and the shadows that accompany the human spirit. She will be remembered not for her struggles, but for the moments of warmth, joy, and adventure she brought into the lives of those who loved her.
In lieu of flowers, her family invites those who wish to honor Allison’s memory to consider a donation to the Brain Behavior Research Foundation (bbrfoundation.org), to fund mental health research grants with the goal of greater understanding of the causes of mental illnesses and developing better ways to treat and control them.
May Allison’s spirit find the peace she sought in life, and may her memory remain a guiding light to all who loved her.
